Bethlehem College Crowned 2025 Local Legends

Congratulations to Bethlehem College who took out the crown for Tauranga Crossing’s 2025 Local Legends grant. Let’s Repaint Wairoa Marae!

Tauranga Crossing is proud to announce that Bethlehem College is the 2025 recipient of the $10,000 Local Legends Grant, thanks to their incredible initiative to repaint and revitalise Wairoa Marae. 

Wairoa Marae stands as a vital part of our region’s cultural landscape – not just a structure, but a place that represents culture, connection and community. Located at one of the key gateways into the city, the marae is often one of the first things visitors see when arriving in Tauranga. Recognising its significance, Bethlehem College launched a campaign to undertake the restoration of the marae’s exterior, capturing the support and admiration of the wider community. 

Thanks to the Local Legends Grant, Bethlehem College will receive funding to cover surface preparation, scaffolding, and paint supplies – essential tools to bring the vision to life. This project isn’t just about a fresh coat of paint. It’s about honouring the history of Wairoa Marae, supporting its role as a cultural anchor, and ensuring it continues to inspire future generations.
