Your Gift to Wild Whiskers

Thank you to everyone that had their Christmas presents wrapped at our gift-wrapping booths throughout December! Together you have raised $5,030.60, which has been directly donated to the local charity, Wild Whiskers Tauranga. Read on to find out how you helped to make a difference in our community.

When speaking with Sharna from Wild Whiskers Tauranga, we gained some great insights into this amazing organisation and the work that they do. Here’s what they had to say:

How did the idea to form Wild Whiskers, come about and what is your main mission?

Wild Whiskers Tauranga is a registered charity formed in 2018. Our founder was looking to find management strategies and practical solutions for the true wild and stray cat populations in our community. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome true wild and stray kittens in the greater Tauranga area and provide education, and resources for the management of stray and wild cats.

We want to make a difference to the welfare of felines in our community, with the main objective being to stop the cycle of unwanted kittens being born.

Does WWT work with any other local groups to achieve this?

Yes, we work with other small rescues and individuals with our greatest asset being our connection with the members of our community and our small group of foster carers and volunteers. One important local group that we wish to engage more with is our local and regional councils and have reached out to them for discussion about an overall community/ regional plan.

Also, without sponsorship and donations we wouldn’t be able to do the work that we do and are grateful for this financial support.

What does this donation of $5,030.60 from the community mean to you and the animals?

For us personally it means we can sleep a little easier at night. As for the animals – those in our foster homes can continue to receive the best of care, for as long as they need it. For those cats still in our communities it means more capacity to manage adults, desex and slow the production of unwanted, unloved, and unhealthy kittens.

This donation has a huge impact on where we can focus our attention and enables us to purchase food, litter and flea and worm treatments.  We would like to thank every member of our community that donated to this cause.

Aside from donations, there are many ways that you can support Wild Whiskers Tauranga and the work that they do. Find out how you can help by visiting their website.
